Elegant Lace Shawl

This Light And Airy Piece Doubles As A Shawl Or A Scarf.

This beautiful shawl is created using the popcorn stitch and works up quickly.  Inspired from old fashioned glamour, this vintage piece adds elegance to any attire.  Follow the simple instructions below to create one for yourself.

Vintage Lace Popcorn Shawl 

Crochet Hook: F/5 or 3.75 mm hook

Yarn Weight: (2) Fine (23-26 stitches to 4 inches)


  • Patons Lace (85 g/3. oz;455 m/498 yds)
    Main Color (MC) Vintage (33008), 1 ball
  • Size 3.75 mm (U.S. F or 5) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension.
  • Chart

Approx 8 x 60 ins [20.5 x 152.5 cm].

17 dc and 9 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Ch 50. (See Chart above).
1st row: (WS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Ch 1. Miss next 3 ch. [(1 dc. Ch 1) twice. 1 dc] all in next ch. Ch 1. Miss next 3 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of ch. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 6 (counts as dc and ch 3). Miss next dc. 1 sc in next dc. *Ch 3. 4 dc in next sc. Drop loop from hook, insert hook in first dc of 4 dc group and pull dropped loop through. Ch 1 – Popcorn made. Ch 3. Miss next dc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * across, ending with 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *Ch 1. [(1 dc. Ch 1) twice. 1 dc] all in next sc. Ch 1.** 1 sc in top of next Popcorn. Rep from * 4 times more, then from * to ** once. 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch 6. Turn. Rep last 2 rows for pat until Scarf measures approx 60 ins [152.5 cm], ending on a 3rd row. Fasten off.
Edging: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to bottom right corner. Ch 1. Work 1 row of sc evenly along side edge. Fasten off. Rep for other side.
